Boater Safety Meeting
3 Most Important things to remember today

• A properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket must stay on the children at all times while on the boat or dock. No exceptions.
• Children must be accompanied by their parent/guardian at all times. The parent is responsible for the child during the entire event. Separation for any length of time will not be permitted, including bathroom breaks. Volunteers should never be alone with a child during the event.
• Everyone must check-in at the registration table. A registration form must be on file either online or on paper.

Other Reminders for the day

1. Be aware of the perimeter of the event. For boating, (define the water area where the event is to take place. On big lakes, rivers, or estuaries, define the outer limits of how far you want boats to travel on the water.) ________________ For the shore activities, define the perimeter of the land area used _________________. Keep a watch on your surroundings and always have eyes on everyone and everything around you.
2. No passenger in your boat is allowed to sit in a location that partially blocks the driver’s
view when the big engine is running. For bass boats, this means that nobody is allowed to sit on
the front deck when the big engine is running.
3. Please be sure your drain plug is in your boat.
4. No swimming should take place during the event.
5. Wear your ignition kill switch and explain to everyone that it is put on the boat for protection
of everyone if the boater is ejected from the watercraft. Show how it works.
6. You are the Captain of your boat. Feel free to explain what your guests can and cannot do while
a guest in your watercraft.
7. Keep an eye on the faces and actions of your guests. You can tell whether they are having fun or
are a bit scared. Adjust your boat speed accordingly.
8. If you are able, hook fish and let the kids reel them in. Hand-offs are great!
9. Assist all guests in and out of your boat. Do not allow them to load and unload without some
sort of assistance.

they want to.
